We then examined the central area in more detail, with the object of determining the broad nature and scale of the changes required to enable it to deal with the traffic which the intermediate network was capable of discharging.

The existing land uses within the central area are shown in Figure 126. Areas where substantial changes are likely to take place, and those which are unlikely to change, are shown in Figure 127. The central area extends over 240 acres.
